Birthday Alerts/Reminder and Workflow

I still am not understanding, how a system like Zoho can be so flexible, and yet cannot have the option to develop birthday and anniversary alerts, then run a workflow to send emails, print mailing labels, and do a mail merge.

Some of the most inflexible CRMs out there can do this..

I think this implementation is long overdue.. If it is possible, then please let me know how to do this..
