Can't delete mobile number under User settings

Can't delete mobile number under User settings

For some reason, we cannot delete the mobile phone number under our User settings.  When we delete it and choose Save, it gives a message of "updated successfully", but the mobile number stays in the field.  We have tried this on numerous users, and have logged in and out a couple of times.  Please advise.
