Case Sensitive Duplication

Guys,

Can you help? I use the CRM as a B2C system. Our company regularly cold calls so to keep track of this we upload every lead to the system so we know who we have called and when. This could be as many as 1000 new leads a day.

To simplify the process we use formulas in excel to auto generate email addresses based on first names and last names. This generates email addresses that could be either john.smith@test.com or John.Smith@test.com depending on the users input. However, when new leads are added to the CRM system the duplication tool recognises john.smith and John.Smith email addresses as different - which is not good.

Is there a way to make the duplication tool not case sensitive?
