Changes to search layout not appearing

I am trying to make a change to the search layout for Leads so include a search on a custom field.

I have followed the steps here https://crmkbase.zoho.com/link/how-to-customize-the-search-layout and whilst the changes save in the Setup page they do not appear as search fields on the Leads page
