Composing new mail not populating contacts nor associating with contacts

Composing new mail not populating contacts nor associating with contacts

When I compose a new email from the eMail tab, the list of Contacts to choose from is not populated.

When I proceed to send an email using the email address only, it is not associating with the Contact record in the CRM.
