A lot of times we won't know the Last Name of the Lead and we just go by the First Name until the Lead is properly qualified and converted into an "Account". The "Last Name" field in the "Leads" section is a compulsory field and I am not able able to change this to non compulsory field.

Can you please let me know how I can do this?
