Confirmation email sending ID instead of contents of Lookup field

I have talked to ZOHO many times but can not get an answer on a very serous problem for me.  So serious that I might have to drop my account with them.  My confirmation emails do not show the actual data in a lookup field.  Instead they show the ID number which is of no use to me.  Zoho simply says that is the way their new editor works which is simply insane.  I am not sure if maybe Zoho support does not have a good command of English and they are misunderstanding me or they really have designed a lookup field intentionally not to work. They sent me a so called "workaround" but it also makes no sense.  They basically told me to lookup the ID.  What good does that do?  My lookups work fine in the view it's just the confirmation email that does not send the correct information.  Any suggestions how I can make this work correctly.  I have no coding skills so maybe I just don't get this myself but it seems obvious that what shows up correctly in a view should show up correctly in the confirmation email after a form is submitted.  Am I missing something?
