Hello Zoho Voice Team,
Greetings.
We would like to submit a feature request to consolidate the functionality currently provided by ZDialer directly into PhoneBridge when Zoho Voice is the connected telephony provider.
PhoneBridge serves as Zoho's standard telephony integration framework and is the primary method through which PBX providers integrate with Zoho applications such as Zoho CRM, Zoho Desk, Zoho Recruit, and the broader Zoho ecosystem.
For most telephony vendors, PhoneBridge acts as the central integration layer between the PBX platform and Zoho applications.
However, Zoho Voice currently requires agents to install and use ZDialer, a browser extension, to access important telephony capabilities such as:
Agent status management
DND controls
Queue availability management
Other telephony-specific controls
Unlike native integrations, browser extensions require continuous deployment, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
Organizations must:
Ensure every agent installs the extension correctly.
Verify that permissions are granted properly.
Troubleshoot situations where the extension becomes disabled, corrupted, or disconnected.
Support users after browser updates introduce compatibility issues.
Train new agents on installation and configuration procedures.
Every new agent must be instructed to:
Install ZDialer.
Configure the extension.
Verify that it is functioning correctly.
Ideally, agents should be able to sign into Zoho and begin working immediately without requiring any local installation.
Today, Zoho Voice customers must deploy and manage a browser extension to access core telephony functionality, much like they would with many third-party PBX providers.
One of Zoho Voice's greatest potential advantages is that it is developed by the same company that develops PhoneBridge, Zoho CRM, Zoho Desk, Zoho Recruit, and the broader Zoho ecosystem.
Unlike third-party PBX vendors, which are limited to whatever capabilities PhoneBridge exposes, Zoho has full control over both the telephony platform and the integration framework. This creates an opportunity to deliver a truly native experience that external vendors cannot easily replicate.
Instead, Zoho Voice currently follows the same pattern used by many external telephony providers, requiring customers to deploy and maintain a separate browser extension for advanced telephony management.
PhoneBridge is the standard telephony integration framework used throughout the Zoho ecosystem.
Third-party PBX vendors typically rely on a combination of PhoneBridge integrations and browser extensions to expose advanced telephony functionality. This is understandable because those vendors do not control the Zoho platform and must work within the limitations of the available integration framework.
Zoho Voice is different because Zoho has the ability to provide a level of integration that external vendors cannot match.
Today, however, organizations using Zoho Voice are still required to deploy and manage a browser extension for functionality such as agent status management and DND controls. As a result, the administrative experience is very similar to what customers encounter when using third-party PBX solutions.
By moving these capabilities directly into PhoneBridge, Zoho Voice could fully leverage the advantages of being a first-party telephony solution and deliver a truly native experience that differentiates it from competing platforms.
We would like Zoho to incorporate ZDialer's agent-facing functionality directly into PhoneBridge whenever Zoho Voice is the connected telephony provider.
Examples include:
Agent status management
DND controls
Queue availability controls
Agent presence indicators
Real-time telephony state management
Additional agent controls currently dependent on ZDialer
Ideally, when Zoho Voice is connected through PhoneBridge, agents should be able to perform all common telephony actions directly from the PhoneBridge interface and related Zoho applications.
No extension deployment.
No extension updates.
No extension troubleshooting.
Reduced IT overhead.
New agents can start working immediately without installing or configuring additional software.
Native integrations are generally more stable than browser extensions and are less vulnerable to browser-specific issues, permission changes, and extension failures.
Agents would interact with a single, unified telephony experience directly within Zoho applications instead of relying on separate extension-based functionality.
Most PBX vendors must rely on browser extensions to provide the connection to the PBX management (at the agent level) - But Zoho has the unique advantage of owning The PBX platform, The integration framework and the relevant product it's connected to (CRM, Desk, Recruit etc).
By leveraging this advantage, Zoho Voice can deliver a level of integration that no third-party PBX vendor can match.
This would transform Zoho Voice from simply being another PBX that integrates with Zoho into the most deeply integrated telephony solution available within the Zoho ecosystem.
PhoneBridge is the standard integration mechanism through which telephony providers connect to the Zoho ecosystem.
Third-party PBX vendors will always be constrained by the boundaries of that framework. Zoho Voice is uniquely positioned to go beyond those limitations because Zoho controls both the telephony platform and the applications that consume it.
Consolidating ZDialer's functionality into PhoneBridge would allow Zoho Voice to fully capitalize on this advantage, delivering a simpler, more reliable, and more tightly integrated experience than any external PBX provider can offer.
Rather than following the same extension-based model used throughout the industry, Zoho Voice could set a new standard for what native telephony integration within the Zoho ecosystem should look like.
Thank you for your consideration.
Kind regards,
Ram
