Contacts imported from gmail

I imported my contacts from gmail, and the formatting was lost: Name and Surname were merged in Name. So I'm now editing all of them manually, but there is a problem: after a while (say, 7-8 contacts) the editing is not saved any more. The window says 'Change saved' (or whatever it is, I downloaded the Italian version), but the change is *not* saved. Only way seems delete existing contact and reenter as new. Can you suggest any solution?
