Is there anyway to convert a Lead to a Potential but NOT create an account until the deal is won?

 

I do not considered potential clients we have proposals in front of accounts until they are our customer but I do want to pull them out of the lead process.

 

I have scoured the boards & the wiki and cant seem to find the answer which makes me assume that it is something right under my nose.

 

Any help would be welcomed.
