Converting Leads to Potentials - Don't want to Create an Account!

Hi

We are using CRM to track leads. When the sale reaches the stage of meetings/pilot schemes etc we want to convert the lead to a potential. However we do not want it to create an account at the same time! The Account section of our CRM is linked to our support ticketing system so having accounts in there which are not confirmed clients will cause issues for support and reports. 

I found in the manual that you cannot create a lead with company details into a potential without creating an account. However, you also cannot leave the company details blank! 

Can someone please help how we can separate the steps from lead, potential and then accounts only at sale point?
