Counting calls and tasks per day

I want to be able to see/track/ report calls (and Tasks) made per day. I don't see a date option for calls in the Activities view, and I don't see how to add that to a custom view. I ended up using Tasks instead of Calls. Did I overlook something?

I have the free version.
