Creating packages according to actual shipping processes

Hi community.

I would like to ask a question to see if there's a better method or workflow for the creation of packages in Zoho Inventory.

There is a little confusion in some of Zoho's language relating to the use of term Packing Slip when connected to a Package.  Traditionally (here in Australia) we would have a Packing Slip or Packing List that shows all of the Packages shipped on a shipment, often used by a warehouse to confirm receipt of goods without having pricing included.

Historically Zoho did not have fields to indicate the dimensions and weights of a package, so we would typically create one single package with all the items shipped, which ultimately does not reflect how the shipment was shipped (i.e. Zoho would report 1 package, but it may have been 4 pallets, 7 cartons etc.).  Now I see that Zoho has included the Dimensions and Weight of the Package which is an excellent addition - but it now raises the question of how to rapidly use this functionality.

If we are shipping pallets - it makes sense to create a 'package' (that represents Pallet 1) add items to the pallet and record the pallet dimensions & weight as the 'shipped unit'.  Freight companies track the pallet and a tracking number can be assigned to this individual 'package'.

It gets more tricky if we are shipping cartons!  If we are shipping 40 cartons as cartons (which we do 50% of the time), there's a lot of work to create 40 packages, manually enter each dimension and weight.  A 'package' can often be tied to a UOM (i.e. box of 20)

Has anybody found a rapid way to use this functionality 'correctly' and 'efficiently' (i.e. the functionality in Zoho is correct, it's just not efficient to enter the data).  Functionally packages should reflect the data sent to a transport company.  I'm looking for a fast way to generate the packages, either from some type of 'default' package configuration or another way.

Appreciate anyone's insight into how to run this process so it doesn't become cumbersome to manually enter all of the data.

Thanks.
