Currency fields

Not sure if this issue has been addressed. I did not find the answer in a forum search.

I am working in the Potentials tab and have set up several currency fields. These fields contain multi-million dollar entries. When I edit the the entire potential (i.e. to change the stage), the currency field will show an abbreviated number (e.g. the field will show up as 2.0E7 instead of $20,000,000). When I attempt to save my stage changes, I receive an error that 2.0E7 is not a valid entry. Is there a way to prevent the automatic alterations to the currency field that occur during the editing process?
