Custom Lookup for Tasks

I've changed the vendor's tab to a time sheets tab. I want to keep track of time related to tasks. But, when I create a custom look up field, I can't relate my time sheet to a task because tasks are not included in the look up field. How do I add a custom look up field so that I can relate things to Tasks?
