I am in the view under customization, then fields, and then contacts, where I should be able to customize the fields that show up when viewing a contact. A number of fields have been created and show up here, but then when I view the contact itself in the database, the fields I set up are not visible. How do I make them visible?

Also under setup, customization, layouts, I do not have the tab called "+new custom field" indicated in the help instructions.

I need help to get started.
