Customization of CRM for Data Collection Project

Hello,

I am working on data collection project, and investigating on capability of customizing the Zoho CRM to fit the project requirements and cover the needs of the processes.

The project based on many stages; the movement from stage to another must be automated based on a predefined workflows, each stage moderated by particular users level.

So, could you help me find a similar implementation or give advices on best practices of Zoho CRM? I could provide you with  the main process diagram in order to give you a clear vision over the project.
