Greetings busy developers!

I realize ZohoCRM is used internationally, so please excuse the U.S. centric nature of my post. Furthermore I hope this isn't a duplicate topic... I have search for some time and haven't seen any threads addressing tax configuration.

Here's my issue, for sales made in the U.S., sales tax rates are most often determined by three factors:

1. The type of product or service being sold.

2. The location of the office where the order is taken.

3. The location to which the purchase is delivered to the buyer.

Therefore, the current tax rate feature set is cumbersome at best and IMHO completely inadequate for high transaction volume. Manually typing in a tax rate for each invoice depending on the particular customer's details is prone to many problems including ending up with over-billed customers or a huge tax debt due to user error!

To be usable, may I suggest a number of feature upgrades to consider:

1. Enable the creation of tax groups with multiple/additive rates that would allow more complex tax configurations.

2. Enable Product, Account, and Contact records to be flagged as either taxable or non-taxable by default.

3. Enable a default tax group to be set for Product, Account, and Contact records.

4. Allow the default settings to be changed at the time of entry on a per Quote or Invoice basis.

I can explain in more detail if needed, but this is the way leading invoicing and bookkeeping programs handle many different user tax needs. I believe this would cover most international needs as well. If something like this is possible already please let me know.

Are improvements in this area already on the drawing board? Any chance of details and/or a time frame?
