Customized Fields Replication

I customized several fields in "Leads." There is an option to have the customized field created, at the same time" in "Accounts", "Contacts" & "Potentials." I checked the appropriate boxes and finished my edits. I then went to "New Leads" and visually confirmed the new customized field. I entered data into this field and eventually converted the "New Lead" to an "Account" and "Potentials" but the text data in my customized field did not appear in "Accounts" or "Potentials" Does anyone know why. What is the purpose of entering data into these field if it cannot be automatically replicated. I don't want to have to go back and reenter it. Have I done something wrong?
