Default Fields Not Working

Default Fields Not Working

Hello all, 

I have set up an email parser that creates leads for us based on emails that get forwarded from our website. For some reason, a default field that I have set up on the Lead template does not work for new leads created by the parser.

Is this a glitch? I know I can build workflow/action tools to work around this but I would rather that the default field just works as it is supposed to.
