Desktop Reminders

The reminders on my desktop never go away.

I've tried clicking both Cancel and OK, but they don't go away. If it's a calendar event, I can delete the event and the reminder goes away, but that ruins my history. Task reminders don't go away even if I delete the task or check it as completed.

Am I doing something wrong?
