Document versioning question

Document versioning question

So, can you give a quick how-to on the document versioning? I click on the version number of one of my documents and some drop down text appears.
File Name and Version.

If I click on version, it downloads the document. I tried to upload the same file and thought it would version it but it just put a (1) after the file name.
