Did you know you can spot the exact task which can affect your project's timeline?
Yes, project baseline comparison in Zoho Projects helps you do that.
A baseline is a snapshot of your current project schedule. Projects and tasks have fixed start and end dates. Deviating from the given dates or duration can affect the project timeline. Baselines help users compare the project schedule and track deviation as the project and tasks progress.
For example, in a product launch project, the manager creates Baseline A when the project starts. Halfway through the project, the manager creates Baseline B and enables both to compare the timelines against the current dates of task. The comparison shows that the legal permits task for phase 2 was delayed by 8 days, pushing back every task that depends on it.
This narrows down the exact task causing bottleneck and helping the manager take necessary actions to recover most of the lost time.
But take note that you can create a maximum of 15 baselines, and compare only 2 at a time. Newly created baseline includes only existing open tasks with defined start and end date. Tasks created after a baseline is added, do not get calculated within the baseline.
