Edit individual fields without editing whole record

Hi,

We use Zoho CRM more and more so thanks for the good work and keep it up.

One feature of Zoho which I like is that I can edit an individual field in a record by hitting the "edit" link next to the field.  This is useful for changing a record's status, for example.  However, I cannot figure out how to enable or disable this feature.  Some fields have it, some don't and I have no idea why.

Any clues?
