Editing Call Fields

Is there a reason you cannot create new fields or modify almost any of the existing fields in the call module? I would like to create a short pick list of call results items so that when I log calls made through the iPhone app, I can quickly select items without having to key things in. However I can neither create a new field nor modify the existing call results field to be a quick list instead of manually entered text. Is there a reason for this?
