Email file size is double the attachment size, why?

Email file size is double the attachment size, why?

Hello,
I've noticed that emails with attachments are double the file size of the attachment. Why is that?

I saw in another forum answer where Zoho adds 30% quotient (?). But this is 100% again the attachment size.

Is there any way to stop this?
