Email templates

When using Merge fields containing spaces
(ex. ${PurchaseOrders.Vendor Name}), the field in the email is not processed and remains blank.
If I use Merge fileds without spaces (${PurchaseOrders.Status}), it works well.

Can this be solved, or is there a work around?
