Extracting the YEAR and MONTH of a date for Reporting


I would like to create a sales report comparing summaries by year. How do I extract the YEAR portion of e.g. the Invoice Creation Date?

Or may be there is a better way.

I would like to compare last year and this year to see where my sales season is at its highest!
