Feature releases and enhancements in Zoho CRM 2018 - Continues

Hi folks! We've had some brand new feature enhancements in the last month. Let's take a closer look at some of them.

Enhanced Sandbox:

Sandbox is a platform for hired-developers to make improvizations to your organization's CRM account by using the Customization, Automation and other features. This update brings the usage of sandbox to a whole new level.

In the new sandbox, you can:
  • Add "Developers" - a new User Type in CRM, specific for developers using sandbox.
  • Facilitate Partial Deployment of changes.
  • Keep track of changes through Deployment Logs.
  • Deactivate your Sandbox.

Enhanced Functions:

Not all the native features are suitable for your business and programming your own sounds cooler and effective, right? "Functions"[previously Custom Functions] is a platform to make the CRM perform certain customized actions. Powered by Deluge, the feature allows you to play around with the components of the CRM, making the CRM usage experience go up by a notch.

Since the update of our APIs to Version 2.0, there have been a lot of changes to Functions. This update has made the language simpler and easier to create. Let me give you guys an example.

The above is a function that lets you close all the tasks associated with a lead and create a single open task at the click of a button. As you can see, the task zoho.crm._getRelatedRecords is different. There are some other changes like "SEID" to "recid" and such.

Connections:

Just as the name sounds, you can connect any third-party software with your CRM to enable seamless data transfer and usage. For instance, say you have an account in MailChimp for you ad campaigns and you need to run the campaign just for the leads in your CRM. You can set up a connection from MailChimp to CRM and use that connection in a "Function" to facilitate the campaign to run from within Zoho CRM.

The difference between using APIs and Connections is that connections make use of the APIs of the third-party software.

Widgets:

There are times when there is a need to use some off-the-shelf software applications other than your CRM. For instance, a dial-pad for calling someone or an analytics software to quantify some stats. You need to work with them all in parallel. How about having them within the CRM, instead of having to juggle between such multiple applications?

Widgets in Zoho CRM are embeddable UI components that you can create on your own, using our JS Software Development Kit. You can either add a customized dashboard, incorporate web tabs, have a custom button or a related list.

Zoho CRM Developer Edition:

We are happy to introduce a new edition of Zoho CRM, tailored for Developers to play around with the software and come up with their own solutions. The Developer edition is totally free and the icing on the cake is that it allows for a single Zoho account to have two CRMs, a normal one and a developer one. You can get a hang of all of the features available in the Enterprise edition at the cost of nothing.

Why this edition, you ask!
  • You can understand the features of Zoho CRM better and come up with better solutions.
  • The changes made in the Developer edition will not affect the data in the regular CRM in any way.
  • You can have a Developer Edition in parallel with a regular CRM. In essence, two accounts for the same user.
