Formatting issues in inventory templates

I am extremley frustrasted with the lack of helpful information in formatting templates. I am reworking a quote template and all is well with account and contact information but when I get to the product level it is not coming out the way it needs to. I cannot get the headers of the columns to line up with the product detail I also cannot figure out where the calculated discount fields are as I am trying to show line item discounts. I do not know or care to know html code. There has to be an easier way to format columns. Also please tell me where I can find the line item product line fields to insert or modify.
