Fresh Install/Restoring old data

Is there a way for doing a fresh install and a restore of old data? I ask this because of moving to a new machine etc. We are using the Linux version of VO. I know we could probably just copy the files over, but I just want to know for doing a fresh install of the software. Thanks.
