Frustrations with IMAP in Outlook pop-up issues and lost data

For the last month or more I've been having intermittent issues where my Outlook IMAP account would keep bringing pop-ups saying too many connections, try later, and to reenter my password. Over and over again. I'd close Outlook, use webmail and next time I'd open it'd be OK again.

Then a week or so ago was the big announcement about organization emails (I use my domain so I think that's me) should change to using imappro.zoho.com. I was resistant after seeing all the issues and assured when support said it was only an option not a requirement.

Today the pop-ups started again and got really bad. I thought I'd try the new imappro to see if it fixed it. Not only didn't it fix it I could NOT revert back. So I ended up removing the account in Outlook and adding in new using imappro. So far, and it's still early, it SEEMS to have fixed the problem. UPDATE: two hours later and the same thing is happening so switching to imappro did NOT fix the issue!

BUT...I'm distraught to realize that it means I've lost all my history. I no longer have anything in my sent or trash and even my saved folders are missing most of their content. I seriously doubt there's a way to recover short of restoring a full back up and starting over but WHY? What should I have done differently?

I hope this makes sense. Should changing to imappro have fixed the pop up issue or were they unrelated? Thank you.

ANOTHER UPDATE: It appears that while the pop-up issue is NOT fixed, I was premature in saying I'd lost everything. It must've just needed to sync to the server again. WHEW! Dodged a bullet there.

BUT now I REALLY need to know what to do about these continuous pop-ups.
