I have been trying to figure this out for awhile now and don't seem to be getting anywhere. We are a sales company in which there is a high volume of sales for each company and customer we have in our database. We have instances in which one company or vendor may work with multiple sales reps for our company, across multiple territories. For this, we use 'opportunities' so sales reps can track their own interractions with each company.
We work with such high volume of sales for each company, and use a different invoicing software, so as far as forecasting goes it wouldn't make sense for the sales reps to constantly create and close opportunities. We have decided to have each rep just use one opportunity for each company they interract with, updating notes and activites and such. I'd like to be able to utilize forecasting and allow the sales reps to manually enter projections for each opportunity for each quarter. However, I don't know if that's possible without closing out the opportunities each quarter.. It would be preferrable if they didn't have to close the opportunity in order for the system to recognize revenue for each quarter.
