Homepage Activities widget not showing tasks by NEXT DATE DUE - only Closing date

On my homepage, I need a list of my upcoming tasks and the date of the NEXT event due.

All that shows in my task list is the DUE or CLOSING date, but I have many tasks with due dates much earlier.

I try re-ordering, which is not good to have to do each time, and that takes me back to the beginning of time, basically.

I'm new so it's probably me - but I've spent a ton of time looking for this and I can't figure out what's wrong.
