I was wondering if it would be possible that after a user clicks a checkmark  or a button of some sort the crm will then start a timer where in 2 days time if another specific checkmark/button has not been clicked it will issue a reminder via email. It will keep checking to see if that chckmark/button is clicked/checked every 2 days until someone clicks/checks off the button/checkbox.
