How do I get rid of something in the site theme?

How do I get rid of something in the site theme?

I am currently using the first theme (the one with the picture of the laptop).  I like the layout, but now the big laptop image in the center, and it only lets me edit the picture in the laptop.  How do I get rid of the laptop from the theme entirely so it goes right to the text beneath it?
