How do you sort on a hidden column in a view?

How do you sort on a hidden column in a view?

I need to sort on a column in a view, but I don't want the column showing.  When I edit the view and hide the column, I no longer have the option to select it for sorting.  Does anyone know how to sort on a hidden field, or know some work-around?
