How to convert a custom text field to URL for existing leads/contacts?

How to convert a custom text field to URL for existing leads/contacts?

I created some custom text fields for leads and contacts like "XING" (european business network) and "Secondary Website" to put in URLs, but did not see the URL field type. Now I want to convert the text fields to URL fields. How is this possible?
