How To - Create links within a module to excel files stored/located on hard drive

I want to have a link on the NEW POTENTIAL BUSINESS module to access one or more excel files on my hard drive. Is there a way to do this so the same ' excel template file' is available with the addition of every new potential business addition? If there was a way to put it in the sidebar area just below where the current  LINKS area is now would be ideal
