How to Group By Month using Summary and Tabular reports

I have a very real need for the ability to group reporting results by month, or week or quarter. I understand that this feature is available for a Matrix report, but unfortunately I've found the matrix report to be the least useful, especially as this style of report is not able to be featured on a dashboard.

I'm wondering if there is any way to accomplish this grouping at this time.

I must stress that this feature is of paramount importance to our business, and I can imagine to the businesses of many other of my fellow Zoho users. The ability to group sales by month should be a standard feature for any CRM.
