Hey everyone here's my situation. We're a small business but we're a partner of a large telecom company. We sell everything they do, but we don't invoice customers directly, we sell the solution and our parent company then installs it and bills the customer and pays us for it. We use Dynamics CRM 2011 right now, and because we don't invoice customers, we track everything in potentials. So we go through sales stages like In Progress > Order Won > Payment received from XYZ Company > Commission paid to rep > Order closed.
We sell products like "Ethernet Internet" in speeds of lets say 1.5Mbps, 3Mbps, 5Mbps etc and each has a different price that isn't set. So for a customer in Toronto it might be $995 a month for 5Mbps, where as a customer in Montreal it's $1005 for 5Mbps, it's always different.
In Dynamics, we don't have to save a price for the product. We can add it to a potential, and when adding it enter quantity 1, and type the price in, and it automatically makes the opportunity price reflect this. I can also pick from a drop down what the bandwidth is so I can pick Ethernet Internet and then select 5Mbps and type price of $995 and quantity 1, save it and it shows it on the opportunity and now the Amount of the opportunity is $995.
Having it total the opportunity based on products isn't a huge deal for me but I'm just wondering if products can be dynamically changed when being added or if they are stuck like this. I guess being called products they're more for inventory, but in Dynamics CRM when you create products you can pick whether it's physical inventory, or "service" and then it doesn't work based on available units.
What I'll probably do is just create a bunch of products so I'll have:
Ethernet Internet 1.5Mbps
Ethernet Internet 3.0Mbps
Etc, and just add the price up manually, that will work fine for now and then I'll make the quantity in stock something like 5000 units but thought I'd check to see if I'm missing anything. Again all this has to be done in potentials, I don't want to have to use sales orders etc.
Just a quick edit, I tried to do this but how do I pick the quantity? I made a product, put quantity 5000 and when I add it to an opportunity, it just adds it as a line item, it never asks how many? There's some products like business phone lines where I need to put a number like 30 as the quantity, so can't just add the product 30 times?
