How to make a custom Quotation

The default PO number is too long for most companies systems to be able to input (what are you guys thinking..? that thing is huge)

So, I set out to create my own number, and almost made it work! almost..

First I created a new custom field with auto-number field type, and I set the starting number to a reasonable 5 character value.

Next I logged out & logged back in, because the field wasn't showing.

Then, going to the page edit screen, I was able to drag off the 'old' Quote Number field , and drag in my new "Quote No" field.

Sure enough, in the form of the Quote, it shows the new value. However - and this is where i get stuck. When I print preview the form - It does not show it.

Any ideas from anyone how to crack this last step would be met with tears of joy.
