How/when to verify domain to start email?

How/when to verify domain to start email?

I signed up with Zoho because my new ISP, SquareSpace, doesn't provide email. I'm in the process of moving the domain from an ISP that provided it with the domain. So, in order to avoid missing any email, do I verify the domain BEFORE I move or AFTER?
