HTML template for Checks, or at least some field control

Is it possible to get HTML formatting turned on for printing Checks?   And if not full html, at least can I get better control over individual field spacing?

The alignment that is currently allowed in the Check template is only the overall margins (up/down and left/right).   I cannot align the individual fields.  The spacing of the date is too far to the right, for example, if I align the payee field.  I cannot get the current template to fit correctly on my checks.
