I am missing the Amount field for Potentials. Help !

I've looked everywhere. I've tried everything. All the documentation says that there is a field called Amount that you enter the Amount of the potential into. I however do not have access to this field. It is simply not there when I convert a lead to a Potential or when I add a new potential. Therefore the Expected Revenue from a close remains at Zero. Does thins sound familiar to anyone? Please have mercy on me and offer a suggestion.
