iCal Feed
iCal Feed
Suggestion: iCal Feed
Purpose: Enable an application to push event-oriented data to an external calendar (like Google calendar) via the iCal standard.
Motivation:
The built-in calendar view is simplistic and has many limitations
compared to other calendar applications. Building a custom html view
may be possible, but would entail large complexities. While there may
eventually be programmatic connectivity between Zoho Calendar and
Creator, providing an iCal feed would be a logical first step AND
significantly expand the scope and usability of Creator.
Example:
A calendar represents a store's inventory of food by expiration date.
Opening a specific event would display lot number, manufacturer, and
re-ordering instructions. Using a food category on the input form,
various views for different calendars by food category could be
displayed, for example using color coding as in Google calendar.
Implementation: Found under More Actions>Export Data>iCal via a link like "http://creator.zoho.com/admin/appname/ical/viewname".
Issues:
The iCal standard data format must be adhered to. Accordingly, there
must be some specific requirements for mapping data fields into the
standard ical manifold. Therefor, not ALL applications will be amenable
to an ical feed.
