Importing from ACT

Hi,
I need to import several hundred contacts from Act into Zoho CRM. Each of my contacts in Act has several Notes (records). What is the best way to import them and also bring in the Notes?

Btw, when would someone use a Contact? It sounds like everything would start as a Lead.
