Importing Leads Assign Workflow Task to Lead Owner But No Email Notification Gets Sent?

I have had a search round an not been able to find the answer to this.

I am importing leads via a.csv file.

I import using 'import my organizations leads'

On the import screen I select the relevant workflow task, which has within the task the 'notify assignee tick box' ticked.

I import the leads and they get assigned to the relevant individuals however there is no email notification sent to the lead owner.

Can anyone help?
