The file export feature suggests the following workflow for making edits:
"Export your existing products from here. You can make edits and add new products in the same file, and re-import it as CSV file."
Simply put, if this worked the way it's been described, it would have saved an enormous amount of my own time over the last year.
There are a couple of issues...
First, those with larger inventory files will quickly find themselves having to spend their valuable time parsing through their inventory file after being presented with the following message:
The size of the files attached exceeded the allowed limit 1 MB.
Why Zoho, why? I could never imagine seeing Amazon giving me a message like this. Why have an artificial limitation that can do little more than annoying users who have far better ways of spending their time than parsing their inventory files into 1 MB chunks.
My file is 3.4 MB, which would require no fewer than four imports.
So I begrudgingly parse my file down to a test file well below the 1 MB restriction, only to be confronted by a list of messages like these:
Item "XXXXXXX" already exists.
Products "XXXXXXX" already exists.
Based on the above messages, it appears that Commerce is only able to import new items.
So how can you use the import feature to make edits across multiple items?
Currently there are no means by which mass updates can be made.
It would be such a time saver if we actually had full-featured unrestricted import/export capabilities.
