Proposal - Zoho should implement some sort of official integration between Inventory and Workdrive for easy uploading, storing, and accessing of files associated with products from the Inventory UI.
Use Cases - Product manuals, technical drawings, vendor quotes, etc. Basically any document or file that users would think of as being associated with a product.
Problem - For many product-based businesses, Zoho Inventory is more than just an accounting and warehouse management extension. It functions as the "home base" / "source of truth" for product information. Features like Custom Fields and Custom Modules support this, which is good. However, most products have specifications, drawings, quotes, manuals, promotional materials, etc. associated with them, and there's not a good way to get to those via the Inventory UI.
Workarounds - People can set up Workdrive folders, use Custom Fields for links to folders/files, or even set up Related Lists. The problem is that these all end up kind of kludgey, and they're not terribly elegant to implement from the front end for UX.
It seems like an integration could add something like a Data Template to Workdrive files to associate them with a given Item or Items, allow for uploads and previews from the Inventory UI, and perhaps tweak read/write capabilities so files couldn't be disturbed from Workdrive inadvertently. Perhaps some sort of tagging system to allow users to have a document type system?
I know this probably doesn't seem like anything major to the engineers, but I bet many users would get a ton out of it. I know my team would.
